3-Day Prayer & Fasting Guide for Marriage Restoration

Prayer and fasting involve denying our flesh certain things that bring us pleasure, in order for us to surrender completely to God. In this specific guide, you will be fasting for 12 hours a day for prayer for Marriage Restoration. You can fast from food if you are medically allowed to (please consult your doctor) or fast from other things like entertainment, specific foods, etc, if you are physically unable to fast from food or pregnant. Whatever the fast you choose, the most important thing is to genuinely humble yourself before God and surrender to Him in prayer.

3-Day Prayer & Fasting Guide for Marriage Restoration

Your marriage is unique, and so are your prayer needs. Therefore, use the prayer prompts given to guide you to start praying and then continue praying as the Holy Spirit leads.

Sometimes as we pray, something remarkable can come to mind, for example, an event that happened in the past, a habit you have been indulging in, some words you said, etc., if this happens, note it down. This could be something you need to spend more time praying over, or something you need to remember. You can also ask God to confirm to you what He is telling you.

If at all there is anything that would hinder you from genuinely giving yourself to God, start by surrendering it to God. Whether it be guilt, anger, shame, sin, laziness, anxiety or even physical things like noise, let God know that this thing is hindering you from praying and ask Him for peace and guidance during this prayer and fasting time.

Lastly, be honest with God. He can already see even the deepest parts of your heart, so you really don’t need to hide anything from Him. Remember that, His compassions are new every morning and nothing can separate you from His love.

How to use this plan

Everyday, you have a general prayer item, for example repentance for day one.

Throughout the day, you will have 5 prayer times depending on the time you prefer, where each time has a verse to focus on.

Read the verse and think about what this verse means to You and ask the Holy Spirit to show you what to pray for at that specific time.

Proceed to pray as the Holy Spirit leads.

You can use the space provided to write your prayer each time or just put some notes that you may need to remember.

Day 1: Repentance & Turning Away From Sin

On the first day of your prayer and fasting, you need to ask God to help you repent and turn away from sin.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Prayer prompt: Father, show me where I carry resentment, anger or speak evil, and help me release it all.

9am/12pm – Forgive

Scripture: Mark 11:25  “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Prayer prompt: Lord, show me where or who I need to forgive starting with my spouse

12pm/3pm – Pray for Your Spouse’s Healing

Day 3: Wisdom & Obedience

On the last day of your fast, you will be praying for wisdom on what to do moving forward and ask God to help you obey. Obedience is key for you to see God working in your marriage.

“Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you…”

Deuteronomy 5:33 KJV

Goal: Seek God’s Word and walk in obedience.

3am/6am – Seek God’s wisdom

Scripture: James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Prayer prompt: Lord, give me wisdom to know what I need to do in my marriage moving forward. Show me also what Your will is for my marriage.

6am/9am –  Tell God the desires of your heart

Scripture: Psalm 37:4-5 KJV- “Delight thyself also in the LORD; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; Trust also in him; And he shall bring it to pass.”

Prayer prompt: Father, please give me the desires of my heart about my marriage according to Your will, and help me accept Your plan.

9am/12pm – Pray for an obedient heart

Scripture: Philippians 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Prayer Prompt: Lord, give me a heart that desires to obey You and help me obey even when it is difficult.

12pm/3pm – Pray for your spouse’s obedience

Scripture: Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Prayer prompt: Father, help my husband obey Your instructions and help us walk in agreement with each other.

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:10-11 “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.  To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

Prayer prompt: Thank You, Lord, for building up my marriage as we walk in obedience to You.

Thank you for taking this step of faith. Whatever your reason to take this fast, the Lord sees You and He knows your heart desires. I pray that He helps you delight in Him and gives you the desires of your heart
